I experiment with the texture of oil on canvas, embracing the softness of atmosphere blended with the colors of the land. Nature is a guiding influence along with the works of Georgia O’Keeffe, Emily Carr and Kandinsky.
In my work you’ll find abstractions of nature alongside work en Plein Aire.
Upcoming projects: Soil- based Watercolor landscapes of New Mexico, In-Situ archaeological paintings of Artifacts, and En Plein Aire Miniatures of my favorite New Mexico hikes, captured as a disabled hiker.

CLAY.
Archaeologists on survey find potsherds everywhere. When I began my studies in archaeology, I started out studying Lithic Technology to understand Prehistoric humans. I dove deeper into the study of humanity when I began to study the advent of a new technology in the past: firing clay for utilitarian items. Using experimental handbuilding and a combination of wheel/ handforming, I find the imperfections beautiful.
My meditation bowls are meant to be containers of spirit as one centers their soul.
Clay sculpture is a rarer find; most of my sculptural work is from the year 2000.
PAPER.
Paper is where it begins for most artists, and I am no different.
Paper can be painted on, glued, crumpled, sliced and placed in new stories.
Collage like this tree can tell stories, not just in the shape of the tree and the swing, but in the choice of paper. It’s trunk is made of slivers of hair, the leaves are eyes. The background is a book from 1880, long out of copyright; it adds to the story when you read the prose.
Paper can be watercolor clouds like my abstract clouds here. I once overheard a painting instructor mention that it was best to think of items in your paintings like simple shapes- clouds are always flat on the bottom, and stacked on top of that atmospheric layer could be found overlapping shapes of all kinds, with rain and lightening falling from them.
